Python… yet another language in NetBeans

There’s an awful weather outside, on TV there is Czech version of Ugly Betty and your company just hired two key Python developers. What else you can do than code Python editor for your IDE? Damn, do I have any hobbies … ?

Well, I think writing Python support for Netbeans is a fine hobby :-)
The screenshot looks already very interesting.

  2. Adam says:

I have a question, is this feature provided by the new java.net project nbpython? If so, how full featured is it so far. I have been keeping an eye on this project for the past few weeks ( since its inception ), and have been anxiously awaiting a working python plugin so I can fully drop my need for eclipse.

  3. Very nice! I’m looking forward to working with you. Python and Jython support on NetBeans is an exciting prospect.

  4. Octavian says:

Way to go! As you can see I am becoming a Python fan and I’ll be happy to encourage your new hobby.

  5. Alley says:

this is a mixed blessing to me. It is great that sun will be adding resources to Python. But it makes me wonder where my project will stand when the dust settles. I have started a open source project to add python support to netbeans. http://nbpython.dev.java.net

I already have some questions about jython lexer, I’ll contact you… and welcome!
    > Adam

People aren’t wasting any time around here…

Alley, I would like to see if there is a way that we can work together, rather than against each other. There’s plenty of work to do!

  8. Roman Strobl says:

Hi Martin, do you have an nbm? :)

  9. Ranganath.S says:

    hi Martin,

Whats about the Groovy plugin? i mean is it side lined like what happened previously when it was Ruby’s turn :P

  10. Martin Adamek says:

    > Ranganath
No! It is improving every day. Nothing changes…

It should be in contrib repository tomorrow.

  12. Brian says:

This is great news. Will it be publicly available?

  13. Jonathan Merritt says:

Hi Martin, I heard about your work via Tor Norbye and the Java Posse podcast. I took at look at http://contrib.netbeans.org/source/browse/contrib/ on 20080318, but couldn’t yet see a directory with your work. Is it up yet? Was that the right place to look?

  14. Jonathan Merritt says:

    Ah ha… I think I found it at hg.netbeans.org under main/contrib/python.editor

  15. Jonathan Merritt says:

Hi Martin, I think I posted *just* after you! Thanks. :-)

When will the first Beta be ready? :)
